ALI A. CHOWDHURY, PhD, FIEEE, is Director of Regional Transmission for the California Independent System Operator. He has nearly thirty years of experience in teaching, research and development, electric utility industry, electric equipment manufacturing, and consulting in power system reliability and security assessments.

DON O. KOVAL, PhD, FIEEE, is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada. Previously, he worked as a distribution special studies engineer for B.C. Hydro and Power Authority in Vancouver and as a subtransmission design engineer for Saskatchewan Power.

Great read. Fun and educational.

I am not the smartest person. I will admit it. I never did well in school and I out right failed history. I didn’t know the Civil War was so interesting! This happened in America? Hard to believe. It is a great and informative read but it doesn’t bring up Lincoln or the slaves at all. I always thought that was a big part of the civil war.

I'm a big fan of Moore's "Slaying the Badger," and this book was excellent, as well: the thoughtful interviews with the racers give an immediacy to the stages that is compelling. From the glorious, in-your-face humanity of Mark Cavendish, to the profane defiance of Lance Armstrong, to the bemused, elder-statesman wisdom of Greg LeMond, the book does a fantastic job of going beyond the Peloton (and, in one of the best chapters, the Gruppetto) to the fascinating psychology of the riders, individually and collectively. Perfect book to have open and to enjoy while watching the slower moments of a transitional stage on TV and waiting for the sprint trains to form up!

Very well done piece of story telling. Author has personalized the stories of the participants in various stages of the TdF in unique style. Listen to Richard Moore's cycling podcasts and read "Etape" or "Slaying the Badger". Roger is so good at both the written and spoken word, the reader can almost hear the inflection in his voice while reading the book.

everyone is really very good to each other

The story is written very 1950s-ish... no language, everyone is really very good to each other. The storyline I think is based on the third season of Spin & Marty but may include elements from the second. Annette, Darlene, and Moochie are in it. Since I personally do not enjoy the direction the 2nd and 3rd seasons took, I feel the same about this story. But I don't regret buying it. It is a period piece and that brings back longings for an earlier time when life had a simpler happy glow as a child (ignoring the pervading fear we all lived under of nuclear war within an hour). So read it and imagine you are living in the 50s.
