No more PreTest for me

The new star series for third year rotations.
The explanations are in depth with most of the focus placed on the higher yield facts/buzzwords to help you recognize the cases in the future. Having the answers right below the question is ingenious. I hated having to flip back and forth in pretest, constantly losing my place and train of thought. Instead with this I am able to look at the question and answer simultaneously.This helps me connect the case presentation with the answer quickly and effectively. The questions are shorter than Uworld of course, but higher quality than Rx/Kaplan/Pretest. The images are gorgeous and are the icing on the cake.

This book is absolutely amazing and I am not exaggerating

This book is absolutely amazing and I am not exaggerating. The questions are divided into different sections (newborn, developmental, cardiology, GI, nephrology, dermatology, etc), giving you the option of focusing on one subject at a time. It also has a sample shelf exam at the end in case you're looking for questions that are more randomly organized. The questions are high-quality and they are quite challenging--I've learned a lot of things I've never heard of before and the topics that were familiar challenged me to think deeper. It does a great job of testing one's knowledge of both the basic sciences (physiology/pathology) and clinical aspects of diagnosis and treatment. The explanations are very informative and thorough (I can tell the authors have put a lot of thought and effort into each question) and the best part is that unlike pretest, I didn't have to flip pages toward the end to read the answer explanations (but don't cheat and look at the answer because you won't benefit as much otherwise!). The pictures are all colored and good quality.
I don't like purchasing books because like any other med student, we can't afford it and we end up not having time to read it anyway. But this is definitely worth the investment. I kept it in my white coat pocket and did the questions during my rotation. I didn't use pretest, case files, or uworld for the pediatric shelf because this book was more than enough. It will come in handy even during residency, if you decide pediatrics or family med. I hope more students become aware of this because it's a really good resource!

Best resource!

This is a great book! I got to rotate with some of the authors who contributed to the book and they are all amazing doctors and educators. Their goal for this book was to be all inclusive of all topics taught in all the top resources combined in one book. It is a super efficient way to get through all the material. It's question and answer style so it keeps you engaged and the explanations are great. I thought it was a pretty easy read, but parts if it are more dense (as expected). The questions are split up into topics and then there is a full length test in the back that mixes all the topics.
