Depressed? This book can help!

This book was awesome. It showed me how my emotions change. And best all - it gave me an easy way to keep me happy and enthusiastic about life. The book is filled with questions that help a person recall things from their past. I don't know how just remembering the things could give me such a great outlook on life - but it certainly did.
It was very easy to read, and most of the book was taken up with the memory exercises. I was actually able to recall things from my childhood that I haven't thought of since!
If you want to find out what it can do for you I definitelly suggest you try it yourself. Don't just take my word for it, try it!

An Excellent Way to Increase Your Mental Well Being

I read the Self Analysis book some years ago. The book is filled with procedures that you can do on yourself or with another person. I did virtually all of the procedures in the book and I was very happy with the results. I found myself more appreciative of other people, less stressed out, and I just felt more in control of my life. I was not let down by Hubbard's opening statements as to what this book can do for you. Heartily recommend it

The book I had been looking for

Although I am very fond of reading, self help books were mostly of no interest to me. Those I had read were full of the authors' opinions on how I should/shouldn't think, behave, feel, express... You have to be this way, and that way... So I usually ended up helping myself by getting rid of these books, that were kludging up the shelves.

Self Analysis, well, that was different, very different. Instead of focusing on telling me how I had to be, the book starts by presenting different ideas on different aspects of life. Then it goes on by asking you to evaluate your current situation and analyze your attitude towards life, using the chart provided in the book. You actually get to figure it out for yourself, rather then having a guy you never even met tell you what you should think about yourself.

Then, the final section presents series of questions which you can use as a guide to explore different aspects of your life, and by doing so, improve your understanding of yourself, and your abilities.

Know thyself, the philosopher said. ...but he forgot to say "How".

This is how! I think you can't improve your life by having someone tell you what to do. It's your life, so you have to analyze it on your own.

I have traveled around the world, but no matter how tight my backpack is, there is always a place for that book.

Great workbook!

This has helped my seven year old son pick out the main idea of a story. He is a strong reader. I was having trouble explaining to him how to find the main point of a story, and this workbook did the trick! Highly recommend!

WOW! I teach 3rd grade and love using this series to help prepare my students for their state tests. They are great for teaching comprehension/reading skills and testing skills. I would reccommend them to anyone in the teaching profession and parents:)

Excellent learning tool to build comprehension skills

I'm the parent of a seven-year-old who just started second grade. Reading was one of my focus areas since she was a baby - we read together and now she is reading independently, working her way through chapter books. Though she is a voracious reader, I wanted to make sure she understood what she was reading and knew how to focus in on key reading areas such as finding the main idea, identifying supporting details, etc. all of which are important ingredients for successful reading outcomes.

I chanced upon these Scholastic series of books focusing on building key reading skills and have found them to be very useful. My daughter actually enjoys working on the exercises because the passages are short and interesting! The questions are well-designed and help young children, Grades 2-3 build skills in the areas of identifying main ideas and supporting details. Another bonus - the passages comprise non-fiction selections which are engaging and informative. I recommend all the books in the series. I get her to work on a page a day (or more if she insists) but the point is to build essential reading skills that will not only make her a better reader, but a smarter and more critical one.

Difficult

Perhaps it is because the ideas themselves are so difficult but I found this work very hard to understand. Leach uses much technical terminology and perhaps this helps those within the world of ethnology but I found myself double and triple- reading passages. Still to read about 'Triste Tropique', the supreme spiritual and intellectual adventure of Levi- Strauss is proof of Pliny's dictum, that there is 'no book that does not give something of value.'

This book is an absolute MUST for any black woman (or man for that matter) who wants to deal with intergenerational scarcity beliefs which prevent us from truly experiencing love in our lives. Richardson and Wade do an excellent job of explaining how the slavery experience impacted every facet of black life and remnants of that impact are played out in our relationships with our family, friends, and mates. For instance, many of us can look back in our family tree to locate where different behavioral patterns (i.e. alcoholism, sexual abuse, obesity, etc.) developed and now play out in our own lives. The authors have you do a series of exercises, such as a genogram which lists the scarcity beliefs and self-destructive behaviors members of our families have developed and passed on to us, to help you begin to understand those internalized beliefs and behaviors which prevent us from experiencing real love. The book doesn't just focus on love relationships with mates but explores love relationships with ourselves, our family, and our mates. Personally, I found the chapter on anger to be the most provocative and enlightening. So much so that I have begun using the information I learned about my anger issues in my individual counseling sessions. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to deal with the pain of slavery and its reprecussions on our present day lives.

This book is an excellent referal to women of all races.

This book should be recommended reading for all students between junior year in high school through any year in college. Warning though: The information is factual and candid for people of average intelligence and above that can handle the truth. I highly recommend to all ages as well of different nationalities.
This seller must have a diverse personality that offers good information to all buyers. I would purchase from this seller again.

Very informative and applicable to personal growth

This is an excellent book and necessary for each one of us to read to better understand who we are and why we make the choices we have made and continue to make. If we want something different for our lives, this book introduces us to ways to examine the lives and choices of our mothers, grandmothers, etc., in an effort to make different choices......
